Introducing Justin Brown

The Brown Agency is a dream come true for Justin Brown, the founder of the agency. As a young student pursuing his college education, modeling provided him with an extra source of income. He worked at several modeling agencies doing fit modeling where designers create clothing pieces that fit your body. When he started out, he was modeling rocker jeans, which are now commonly referred to as skinny jeans. With more exposure in the industry, his interest in what goes on behind the camera grew, and he eventually landed a job in development and placement, which involves training models and helping them land jobs. This is what he is still doing with his agency.

Model Development Business

Brown started his modeling career in California and moved to different cities before finally settling down in Austin, Texas which he says was a perfect fit for him. The city was not too big neither was it too small and the fashion industry there was just starting out. This opened up the opportunity he needed to establish himself as a player in the industry. He, therefore, started his modeling development business where he scouted for talent, took them through proper training and introduced them to larger global agencies in the industry. Given that the development field is looked at with skepticism since many people think they take advantage of the talent’s vanity, Brown points out that the sector is regulated by the Texas Workforce Commission. Therefore, people should not look down on businesses in the modeling development industry.

Becoming an Industry Leader

While with the talent and modeling group Wilhemina Brown, Brown was hoping for success in the industry. He, however, had no clue how successfully he would be. When he started JB Models and Talent in 2008, the modeling industry in Austin was not as ambitious as it is now. Only local players were involved, and he purposed to change the face of the Austin fashion industry by taking it to the big-market level. His licensing by Wilhelmina National Agency in 2010 opened up the doors he had been knocking on. National campaigns started taking off in Austin and with them came good tidings and fortunes. The Agency takes a 20% cut for modeling jobs, 15% for non-union commercial, television, video gigs and film. Additionally, it gets a 10% cut for union jobs. Justin Brown recently purchased Heyman Talent South. This acquisition came with Michael Bonnee as part of the package further expanding prospects for his business as a leader in the industry.
